300 Series Stainless Steel Electropolishing & Deburring Services
Companies in highly regulated sectors require metal components with exceptional levels of corrosion resistance. Even high-grade stainless steel cannot always meet the exacting standards these environments demand. In business since 1998, Electro-Max is a leading provider of 300 series stainless steel electropolishing services. We utilize specialized chemical baths and electrical currents to achieve the next level of deburring and corrosion resistance for your finished products.
Enhancing the Performance of Austenitic Alloys
Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that immerses the finished part in a specially blended chemical bath while an electric current is run through the material. This combination removes an exceptionally thin layer of surface metal at a uniform rate.
Unlike standard mechanical polishing, this process leaves the resulting surface microscopically smooth, highly reflective, and free from impurities. The primary advantages of electropolishing 300 series stainless steel include:
- Providing a completely passivated surface that drastically boosts the material's natural resistance to rust and oxidation.
- Creating an ultra-clean finish that is highly resistant to bacterial contamination for food manufacturing and medical devices.
- Removing burrs and cleaning welds without introducing mechanical stress.
- Improving the metal’s fatigue life by eliminating microcracks and heat tint down to a microscopic level.
Electropolishing for Common 300 Series Grades
More than 95 percent of our business involves finishing stainless steel for a wide range of industries. We have the expertise and the equipment to provide targeted, high-quality electropolishing for metals and metal alloys across the entire 300 series spectrum.
Grade 301 Stainless Steel
Grade 301 is highly valued for its exceptional yield strength and rapid work-hardening characteristics. Manufacturers frequently use this alloy to produce heavy-duty springs and complex stamped parts. Because the intense mechanical forming required to shape these components introduces microscopic surface stresses, we use electropolishing to selectively remove these flaws. By eliminating these tiny burrs and stress risers, we significantly extend the lifecycle of dynamic parts used in the aerospace industry and medical fields.
Grade 303 Stainless Steel
Because 303 stainless steel contains added sulfur for superior machinability, it is frequently used to manufacture complex, high-volume parts like screws and gears. Our chemical baths easily navigate the intricate threading of these heavily machined components to remove trapped oils and microscopic metal flakes left behind by cutting tools.
Grade 304 Stainless Steel
As the most versatile and widely used grade in the 300 series, 304 stainless steel is the industry standard for general manufacturing and food processing equipment. We electropolish these components to ensure their surfaces are completely non-porous and free from hidden crevices, making them incredibly easy to sanitize in commercial settings.
Other 300 Series Alloys We Electropolish
While the grades detailed above represent our most frequent requests, our electrochemical processing lines are engineered to surface-treat a massive variety of specialized metals. We routinely micro-polish and deburr the following austenitic variants:
- 302
- 305
- 316
- 321
- 347
- 304 Sintered
- 318 (2205 Duplex)
- 330 (Cast)

Yes. The electrochemical process naturally attacks the high points on a metal's surface first. This makes it an incredibly effective method for removing microscopic burrs from stamped parts and delicate springs without causing mechanical distortion.
While it depends on the specific alloy and the duration of the chemical bath, electropolishing typically removes between 0.0002 inches to 0.001 inches of surface material. Our technicians carefully control the electrical current to ensure strict dimensional tolerances are maintained.
It depends entirely on the requirements of your component. Passivation only removes free iron to improve corrosion resistance without altering the appearance or dimensions of the part. Electropolishing also provides a passivated surface, but it actively removes a microscopic layer of metal to smooth the surface, eliminate burrs, and create a bright finish.
