EMI Standards & Specifications
At Electro-Max, Inc., passivation and electropolishing standards are the backbone of every project. Our quality team reviews each job against the required specs to ensure full compliance, consistent performance, and reliable documentation. From ASTM and AMS standards to customer-specific specs, we align each process with the exact finish and corrosion resistance your parts demand.
Passivation Standards
ASTM A380 – Cleaning, Descaling & Passivation of Stainless Steel
ASTM A967 – Chemical Passivation Treatments for Stainless Steel
ASTM A967 focuses on chemical passivation treatments that remove free iron and restore the protective chromium-oxide layer on stainless steel. Our processes follow approved acid chemistries, controlled immersion times, and post-rinse procedures to ensure optimal results. Verification testing ensures each part meets the required level of passivity so components resist corrosion and perform reliably in demanding applications.
AMS 2700 – Aerospace Passivation Specification
AMS 2700 is the aerospace industry’s benchmark passivation specification for stainless steel. Using approved process types and methods, we remove surface contaminants and promote a stable passive layer that enhances corrosion resistance. Process documentation, bath control, and optional water immersion testing support traceability and help customers meet stringent aerospace, defense, and high-purity requirements.
QQ-P-35 – Legacy Passivation Specification
QQ-P-35 is a legacy passivation specification that is frequently referenced on older drawings and in long-running programs. Electro-Max maintains procedures that align with QQ-P-35 requirements and current standards, such as ASTM A967 and AMS 2700. This approach enables customers to maintain established specifications while benefiting from modern process control and documented quality practices.
SPS-1001 – Specialized Passivation Process Standard
SPS-1001 is a customer-driven passivation standard used for mission-critical stainless-steel components. Our team reviews each revision of SPS-1001, confirms compatible chemistries, and configures process parameters to match the specification. Detailed work instructions help ensure consistent surface condition, reliable corrosion resistance, and alignment with your internal quality and regulatory requirements.
PS 2026 – Custom Passivation Specification
PS 2026 outlines specific passivation criteria for select stainless-steel parts, often in highly regulated or performance-sensitive applications. At Electro-Max, we translate PS 2026 requirements into clear process steps, including cleaning, passivation, rinsing, and verification. This structured approach delivers repeatable results and supports long-term reliability in service.
Electropolishing Standards
ASTM B912 – Passivation of Stainless Steels Using Electropolishing
ASTM B912 covers passivation achieved through controlled electropolishing of stainless steel. Our process removes a thin surface layer, smooths micro-roughness, and enhances the chromium-rich passive film. Performance can be verified through water immersion testing, humidity exposure, copper sulfate testing, salt spray testing, and ferroxyl testing to confirm corrosion resistance and surface cleanliness.
BPS 4523 – Electropolishing Process Standard
NPS-23 – Electropolishing & Finishing Specification
NPS-23 is a specialized specification for electropolishing and finishing precision components. At Electro-Max, we interpret NPS-23 requirements into a defined processing window, including pre-cleaning, electropolishing parameters, and post-treatment inspection. The result is a bright, smooth, and passive surface that meets your engineering drawings and quality system expectations.
